As we drove north to Mzuzu, it was clear that the maize crop was looking good. This, of course, is the staple foodstuff for the country and the government is predicting a 25% increase in yield. This will also help reduce inflation.
But…..it hasn’t really rained for a week and this unseasonal drought is a threat.
Since then, there has been the catastrophic flood in the South. While not directly impacting on the area where we work, there will be economic impact in about a year as basic foodstuff runs out.
